New York City: Hometown Bucket List 2018

Living in NYC is nothing like visiting it as a tourist. There are so many amazing things around the city that you never really get a chance to enjoy because you are too busy going about day to day life. As such, there are a lot of places and events that I am dying to check out. One of the perks of working from home is that I now set my own schedule, meaning I can make time for the fun stuff now. In honor of that, I decided to make a small bucket list for 2018 of all the things I want to do around the city. These are all things I’ve never had the opportunity or time to do before. While there are definitely other places I’d like to check out these are all of my first round picks.

1. Irish Hunger Memorial

This is such an incredible memorial in downtown Manhattan. The memorial represents the Irish landscape and has stones, vegetation, and even a cottage native to Ireland. At night it is lit up to serve as a reminder that hunger still exists worldwide. I am dying to go here and truly take in the natural beauty of such a meaningful and artful place.

2. Drunk Shakespeare

You read that right! Drunk Shakespeare actually sounds like the most amazing innovation of a generation. You get to become part of a live performance of some of the greatest plays ever written. Also, the cast is drunk, so double awesome points for that.

3. Michaelangelo at the Met

I’m actually going to have to check this one off soon, because the exhibit is only live at the Met until February 12th. I love the Renaissance, art, architecture, history, and basically, everything that this encompasses. I wanted to go as soon as they opened but that holiday madness engulfed me. It is happening as soon as possible, though.

4. 9/11 Memorial

The most pivotal event of my generation. It shaped those of us who were at a certain age as we came into critical points of our lives. Every person I know was personally affected by September 11th. As a kid, I spent a lot of time at the World Trade Center and I have not set foot in the area in over 16 years. It’s a wound that won’t heal, but I feel the need to go there and find some sort of peace in the pain. This will be the year for that.

5. Drink fancy cocktails in a Jazz Club

This obviously needs to happen. I feel snazzy just thinking about all the sexy jazz and gin. Maybe I’ll try a few different jazz clubs and pick a favorite.

6. Drag Queen Bingo

I didn’t even know this was a thing until recently, but now that I know I, obviously, NEED to do it. Le Bingo is an inexpensive night out that is sure to be fun as hell.

7. Eat an ice cream taco

10 Below Ice Cream Parlor has taken the trend of rolled ice cream to the next level by putting it on a waffle taco. Tacos + ice cream = true love.

What are some of your favorite things to do in NYC? Let me know so I can add them to my list!
